Oxytocin (Cys-Tyr-Ile-Gln-Asn-Cys-Pro-Leu-Gly-NH₂; disulfide bridge Cys1–Cys6) is a nonapeptide hormone and neuropeptide produced in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus. It acts on OXTR (oxytocin receptor), a Gq-coupled GPCR expressed throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, smooth muscle, and immune tissue.

Research applications for oxytocin span neuroscience, endocrinology, and behavioural biology.
